Supported Tops: General
(Back to the
)
Here are two
classic supported tops, which involves an arm mechanism that holds the top
in place while it's being spun.

I have a variety
of supported tops, mostly the type you wind with a spring and release with
a button (Some class these as Twirlers (Finger Spinners) and refer to them
as spring-tops). I really like the $1.00 tops I bought at the dollar
store (large, green and red one). They whistle when they spin.
Get 2 or 3 going and it sounds like a Civil Defense Alarm!
The "Dancing Queen" top
belongs to my little girl. She kindly let me borrow it for this photo.
(Note: the green
and red top is a hybrid in that it is a supported top, but take the spring
container off, wind a string around the top, and you have a peg top!)

These
mysterious support tops are enclosed in round casings and are able to balance
on a point.

Please let me know if you have any questions or just want to talk about tops:
