Push Rod Tops (Back to the
)
The following top is what
I call (and have seen referred to as) a push rod top. It is one of
my favorite tops. If you know where I could obtain more of these,
I'd love to hear from you!

The disc at the end of the red casing is attached to an iron rod that slides into the casing. To launch the top, one slides the rod out of the casing and places the disc inside the top. Then one pushes the casing downward. Torque is produced as the rod slides back into the casing during the downward thrust. |

These are my other push rod tops. They are actually rather
flimsy, being made of thin tin.
The disc on the end of the rod is made of wood. |
The following tops are rather
expensive ones I saw on ebay but did not buy. The speckled tops were
once in a toy musuem in Britain. I really wish they would have stayed
there or at least had gone to a top musuem.

Far as I am concerned, probably the king of the push
rod. Very beautiful set. I believe they were
made in Germany during the 1920s. |

Please let me know if you have any questions or just want to talk about tops:
